What to say about a man like Steve?
He left an indelible memory on many people in many parts of the world. He was passionate about many things: his family, sailing, gardening, travel, building boats, theater.
Steve was a craftsman and handyman who could turn his hand to doing anything. He ran a business (Mr, Fixit) doing kitchen and bathroom renovations for several years before retiring to Napanee. Steve loved making things but he was justifiably proud of the beautiful cedar strip canoe and the ocean-going kayak which he made.
Steve was always a friendly person who would talk to anyone and everyone. He made friends wherever he went. As a traveler of the world, and through his sailing and other adventures he made lasting friendships.
Steve was also a kind and generous person, giving his time and energy to numerous volunteer roles including being a Big Brother, working with Communities in Bloom, Interval House and the museum/archives in Napanee.
Steve was born in England and raised in South Africa. He married twice and had two daughters with his first wife who returned to live in New Zealand where, as a result, Steve and Anna spent a lot of time.
Steve loved sailing and over time managed to sail around the world part of that on their trimaran, Libran Lady, which he and Anna built.
Gramps, as he was known, loved his grandchildren and especially enjoyed spending time with them.
Unfortunately in the last few years, Steve developed dementia and became lost to those who loved him. He leaves behind Anna, his wife of nearly 52 years, his two daughters, Sherrie and Nicola, sons-in-law, Bruce and Peter, grandchildren: Shaun (Danielle), Marcus, Emily and Andre and great-grandchildren: Billie, Lottie and Ollie, his sister, Jil Henri (Gerry) and a host of friends all around the world.
