Peacefully, at Hallowell House in Picton, Pauline Lillian Frederick Smith went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 7, 2025, just shy of her 87th birthday.
Pauline was predeceased by her beloved husband Bob, her parents James and Lillian Doggart, her brother Bob, sister Ruth, and infant sister Patricia Rose.
She will be forever cherished by her children Bill (Nicole), David (Christa), and Wendy Frederick. Loving grandmother to Rebecca, Evan, Ryan (Jessica), and John Ryder. Adored “GG” to Aydin and Kate. Pauline’s devotion to her family was unwavering, and her love was a constant presence in their lives.
Born in Toronto, Pauline moved to Belleville in 1957. She worked at Trenton Memorial Hospital for 20 years before retiring to focus on her greatest joy—her grandchildren. She also formed lasting bonds with the families who entrusted her with the care of their children, becoming a beloved figure in many homes.
Pauline was a passionate leader with the Pioneer Girls from 1975 to 1996, touching the lives of countless young women. In 2000, she began her service with the Salvation Army in Belleville, continuing her lifelong commitment to faith and community.
She found joy in simple pleasures—writing poetry, reading, daily devotional time, and tackling crossword puzzles. The obituary section was always the first page she read in the newspaper, often with a thoughtful word or prayer for those named.
She was an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan and loved her daily walks. Even into her 80s, she could be found watching over her great-grandson with loving care.
Her life was rooted in faith, and she lived by the words: God is Love.
A visitation will take place on Monday, July 28, 2025, at The Salvation Army in Belleville (Bridge Street) from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., with interment to follow in the Belleville Cemetery.
