Michael "Mike" Hutzler Obituary

Michael “Mike” William Hutzler

August 13, 1950 – November 2, 2025

Mike was born in the summer of 1950 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario, the youngest child to John “Jack” Henry Hutzler and Jessie “Billie” Wilhelmina Lothian. He grew up in Dundas, where he spent his childhood summers on Little League baseball diamonds and discovered a lifelong love of golf that would follow him through every stage of his life.

His early career took him across the country as a Golf Assistant, a role that suited his easygoing nature and love of sport. The skills he honed on the course carried him into retail property management, where he met Rennie. The two eventually settled and married in Napanee.

Over the years, Mike built a career defined by versatility and reliability. A carpenter, an accountant, and a small business owner, he later turned his attention to renovating and managing the investment properties that he and Rennie had worked hard to build together. Whatever the role, Mike approached each project with quiet consistency and care, finding purpose in seeing things through from start to finish—even if his precision sometimes depended on whether you were using his measuring tape or yours.

What he valued above all else—and what he said was his “proudest accomplishment”—were his five children and eight grandchildren. To his family, Dad was so much more than his many trades. He was the calm and steady voice in the room, the one already reaching for his tools before you could even ask for help. For his kids and grandkids, he was their quiet encourager—
the dependable presence who showed up, cheered them on, and believed in them wholeheartedly.

Mike leaves behind a family who loves him deeply. He is survived by his wife Rennie and will be missed by his children Jennifer Chabot (Guy), Kevin Brandino (Rachelle), Matteke McAuslan (Colin), Kellen Hutzler, and Brynn Hutzler (Brittani); and his grandchildren Brock, Burke, and Bryce Chabot; Cole and Tenley Brandino; Rory and Casey McAuslan; and Elijah Hutzler. He is also survived by his brother Don Hutzler and sister Teresa Clushman.

Drop in for a toast to Mike at the 19th hole on Thursday, November 6 from 4pm-8pm at the Napanee Golf and Country Club.

A Funeral Mass will follow on Friday, November 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Napanee.

Donations are encouraged to be made to A.B. Smith Homestead House. Tracey, Valerie and Vickie made Dad’s days beautiful, peaceful, and filled with love and laughs - not only for him but for his entire family. Online condolences, photos and memories can be shared at www.milestonecremation.ca.
