On Friday, February 7th, Marjorie "Ann" Nugent (Baird) passed away peacefully at home. She is survived by her beloved husband, Richard (Dick) Nugent; her children, Leann Baird and Marcia Fretts (Todd); and her grandchildren, Madeline, Jacob (Lauren), and Jason (Alexandra) Fretts. Ann is also fondly remembered by her stepchildren and their families: Stephen (Mary Anne), David (Alida), Kevin (Cathy), Tara, Cynthia, Anthony, Ellie, and Carson Nugent. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gordon Baird (d. 1997), and her parents, Harold and Marjorie McConkey.
After graduating from teacher's college and briefly teaching, Ann embraced a life of farming alongside her late husband, Gordy. Together, they raised their children, cattle, and grew vegetables. Ann became affectionately known as "The Corn Lady" after many years of selling her produce at the market in Cataraqui Woods Square. In her retirement, Ann was an avid reader, baker, and crafter, working on her beloved afghans until her passing.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Carl Lee and his staff, the nursing staff at CBI Home Health, her weekly PSWs, her case worker Melissa, and, most importantly, Grandpa Dick, who supported her daily needs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Convalescent Care Wing, care of the Lennox and Addington County General Hospital Foundation. As per Mom's wishes cremation has been entrusted to Milestone Cremation Sevices. A private celebration for family and close friends will take place this spring as her favourite place on earth...the cottage.
