It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Heart of Hastings Hospice on Saturday, February 7, 2026, following a courageous 85-day battle with brain cancer. She was taken far too soon.
She shared 53 beautiful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Larry Douglas. Together they built a life rooted in love, family, and unwavering partnership.
She was a proud and loving mother to Angela Douglas (Adam) and Tammy Thomson (Greg), and a cherished grandmother to Owen, Autumn, and Leah, who were the light of her life.
She is survived by her siblings Jack Short and Marilyn Wellman (late Larry). She was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred Short and Ruby (Beaudrie), and her brother Greg Short.
She had a true passion for flowers and gardening, finding joy in nurturing beauty wherever she could. An avid bridge player, she loved the challenge of the game and the friendships it brought. Her compassion for animals was evident throughout her life, especially in the love she shared with her beloved dog Yogi and cat Bailey.
Vibrant and full of life, she was known for her warm smile, kindness, intelligence, and lifelong love of learning. As the proud owner of Intercity Flooring for 25 years, she built not only a successful business but lasting relationships within her community. She thoroughly enjoyed 14 wonderful years of retirement at Golden Ponds, where she formed many treasured friendships.
With heartfelt gratitude, the family extends sincere thanks to the health care professionals at Kingston Health Sciences Centre, Dr. Bremner, Amber Babcock, NP, and the compassionate staff at the Heart of Hastings Hospice for their exceptional care and kindness.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Heart of Hastings Hospice would be greatly appreciated by the family
