Gary Lloyd Cranston passed away peacefully after a brief illness with his family by his side at the Belleville General Hospital on Monday, July 3, 2023. Gary was 88 years old and is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Shirley (nee Kennedy), his adult daughters Marnie of Kingston and Kelly of Ottawa, and his beloved granddaughters Paige (14 years old) and Shea (10 years old).
Predeceased by his parents Richard and Marguerite (nee McCauley) Cranston and all his siblings Dayle, Gaila (Begbie), and Dawn (Bryant). Gary was born and raised on the 8th of Thurlow and as a young man enjoyed many adventures including flying his 2-seater airplane, scuba diving, playing hardball, hockey, judo, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. Early in his career he and his sister jointly owned and operated Cranston’s, a sporting goods store in downtown Belleville and Frankford. He later moved into car sales, initially working for Ford and then moving to GM where he spent the remainder of his career in Stirling, Trenton and Belleville locations. He knew many people through his line of work and was well-known for his good work ethic and sense of humor.
In his retirement Gary enjoyed fishing, hunting and buying and selling boats. He also enjoyed caring for his large manicured yard on his tractor in the Oak Hills. Gary will be missed not only by his immediate family, but also his brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, and Mathew and the Holgate family.
