Edward Rushlow

RUSHLOW: Edward Gerald  

October 25th, 1953 – June 28th, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Edward “Ed” Gerald Rushlow, resident of Marmora, Ontario. He passed peacefully on June 28th, 2026, at Campbellford Memorial Hospital, with his youngest daughter, Vanessa, by his side. 

Edward was born in Toronto, Ontario, to Dorothy (nee Scott) and the late Gerald Rushlow. He graduated from Vincent Massey Collegiate Institute, and in his later years, continued his studies at Loyalist College, where he completed the Developmental Service Worker program. He was a single parent and raised his two daughters, Teresa and Vanessa, with the help of his family. Once he was an empty nester, he resided on his cherished farm in Thomasburg for many years before moving to Marmora, where he lived for the remainder of his life.

Edward spent his lifetime doing what he loved and advocating for what he believed in. He was the president of an organization called Partnership Against Poverty. In 1994, he spoke about the rising costs of tuition. He spent nearly two decades working as an Educational Assistant with the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board. He was well known for revamping the wood shop program at Madoc Township Public School. This program allowed him to teach young boys how to build things such as birdhouses and tool caddies. He was always very artistic and had a real talent for woodworking; he loved wood burning and carving statues. Outside of work, he had a long-lived passion for music, attending approximately 60 concerts in his lifetime. Edward always made sure to share his love for music with his friends and family; the love for music has been passed through generations and is sure to live on for generations to come. In addition to his love for music, he loved being outdoors and was always known for spending a lot of time with his two beloved pets, Kato and Thunder. He loved a good bonfire surrounded by friends and family and watching the Dallas Cowboys and Toronto Blue Jays. Edward was a very authentic man; always standing up for what he believed in. He was a good listener, easy to talk to, and loved by everyone. Although he was reserved at times, Edward was the life of the party. 

He was a devoted partner to Bernice Siddiqui for 7 years; a loving father to his children Teresa and Vanessa (Steven); a proud grandfather to his grandchildren Chanel (Gary), Brittany (Jean-Luc), Victoria, Cameron, and Brandon; and his 4 great-grandchildren.

Edward is survived by his 91-year-old mother, Dorothy Rushlow, his siblings Janis Rushlow, Gord Rushlow, and Ken Rushlow; his partner Bernice Siddiqui; his children Teresa Rushlow and Vanessa Rushlow, his five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father, Gerald Rushlow, siblings Robert Rushlow, Linda McCormack, and Debbie Rushlow, as well as beloved pets Kato and Thunder. 

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 22nd, 2026, from 1-5 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 99, 51 Highland Ave., Belleville.  Please come together to commemorate the life of our loved one; all are welcome to attend.  In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation in memory of Edward Rushlow. We thank the amazing nurses and doctors for keeping him comfortable in his last moments.
