A Life Well Lived
Dorothy Louise Jacob-Wouda (DJ) went to dance with abandon on the streets of heaven on June 26, 2024.
She was born October 10, 1946, in Point Anne, Ontario. Dorothy’s life was defined by her care for others and love of her family.
Dorothy is survived by her husband and best friend, Harry, her daughters Stacey (Don), Michelle (James) and Renee (Bryan) and her grandchildren, Dyllan, Rowan, Donny, Bryson, Logan, Callum, Danica, Ryhn and Morgan. Dorothy is predeceased by her parents, Phyllis (Teddy) and Lawrence Horwood and survived by her sister, Barbara Whalen (Steve) and as Aunt Goldie to Dustin, Chris (Kristen), Anthony (Angie) and their children, Nicholas, Emily, Rebecca, Isaac, Aurora, Katelyn, and Miles.
Dorothy attended Moira Secondary School and went on to study nursing in Brockville, Ontario as class of 1969. She spent a brief period in Alberta before spending most of her life in Belleville, Ontario, and worked as Registered Nurse at the Village Green in Selby Ontario for 26 years.
Her role as a mother is summarized with unconditional love, strength, and generosity that extended beyond her immediate family to encompass a wide network of loved ones. She accepted everyone with an open heart, open arms, and a perpetual smile.
With her indomitable positive attitude, wit, and genuineness that is unmatched, she handled the hard stuff well. She was a lover of a handwritten letter, and the number she sent can’t be counted. We will miss her hugs, her laugh and her thoughtfulness. The void that she leaves behind is insurmountable.
Dorothy had a thirst for knowledge with always being an avid reader, along with using her hands to make gifts and food for her family and friends or to donate her abilities to the less fortunate. She loved to see new places and visit her “second” home in Clearwater, Florida where she could enjoy the palm trees blowing and where it is always five o’clock.
A celebration of life will be held at 271 Airport Parkway, Belleville, Ontario on Sunday July 28, 2024, from 12-5. Please bring a story and a picture and a lawn chair. DJ will be so upset about missing the party. Please donate in Dorothy’s honour to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward, or the Lennox & Addington Country General Hospital Foundation.
We would like to thank the tireless nursing and hospital staff at the Lennox & Addington County General Hospital, (Napanee ON) in both the chemotherapy unit as well as the ICU. Your love, dedication and caring helped make a challenging time, a manageable one.
