We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mom, wife, and grandma, Darlene Anne Hunter, who passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the age of 64 years.
Darlene was a gentle soul and a true gem to all who knew her, whether for a moment or a lifetime. She had a warm glow about her and a heart that would do anything for anyone. Her kindness, generosity, and loving presence will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.
Darlene will be forever loved and missed by her devoted husband of 36 years, Rob Hatt; her cherished daughters, Christina Hunter (Corey Mitchell) of Trenton and Selena Hatt (Dominic Bennett) of Belleville. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Myah Schroedter (Kurt) of Trenton, Shayla Mitchell (Aidan Korchuk) of Belleville, and Everleigh Bennet of Belleville. She will be lovingly remembered by her siblings, Mona Hartwick of Belleville, Edie Bonisteel of Belleville, Vicki Woodend of Tweed, and Art Woodend of Thomasburg as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Vera Woodend (Levesque) and James Woodend, and her sister, Cindy Woodend of Belleville.
Born in Belleville, Ontario, Darlene was the youngest of six children - As Edie always said, "The day our mother brought her home, we thought she was the sweetest little baby doll, lying in her bassinet, with all 10 eyes looking down at her. She was the best Christmas present we could have asked for. Santa had arrived."
She spent much of her career in an administrative field at Belleville and Trenton General Hospital before becoming a licensed Real Estate Agent alongside her sister Edie Bonisteel of Royal LePage ProAlliance Reality. Family was her everything – cooking big family dinners, planning outings and family trips, looking after her granddaughters any chance she could, and pouring her whole heart into every moment spent with the people she loved most.
Her passion was her art – drawing, painting, making abstract art to fill in her ‘spare time’. She had a special gift for turning something simple into something truly beautiful.
Darlene deeply loved traveling the world, creating and treasuring memories in places such as the Maritimes, Las Vegas, Greece, Mexico, and many other places.
She was always up for a good time and was often the life of the party – especially if she got her hands around a pair of spoons; you could always find her on the dance floor, dancing the night away.
A Graveside Service will be held at Belleville Cemetery, 631 Dundas St W, Belleville, ON, on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM. A Celebration of Life and light lunch will follow at the Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward (please use entrance on the west side of building), 34 Wallbridge Loyalist Rd, Belleville, ON.
Donations in Darlene’s memory may be made to Hospice Quinte or Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward.
