Catherine Mary Laird-McNeil, born on April 7, 1960, in Saint John, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, in Frankford, Ontario, at the age of 65. Catherine was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend whose warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen McNeil, her devoted parents, Mary and Donald Laird, and her beloved sister, Ronalda Laird. Catherine will be forever remembered by her children, Stephenie McNeil (Daniel) and Katie DesRochers (Peter), and her two precious grandchildren, Rose and Charlotte DesRochers, who brightened her days. Catherine is also survived by five siblings and many neices and nephews.
Catherine was a proud maritimer and was fortunate to live in many interesting places throughout her life: Russia, Labrador, and Bermuda. She always expressed gratitude for these experiences that enriched her life and broadened her perspective.
Professionally, Catherine dedicated herself to the dental field, where she held multiple roles throughout her career. Her commitment to her work and her compassionate nature left a lasting impact on her colleagues and patients alike.
Family was central to Catherine's life. She adored her two grandchildren, whom she lovingly cared for, and found immense joy in sharing her love of nature with them. Whether it was exploring the outdoors or watching the birds in her garden, Catherine's appreciation for the natural world was infectious. She was proud of her Scottish heritage and she shared this cultural legacy with her family.
A funeral service to honor Catherine's life will be held at a later date in her hometown of Hampton, NB.
It was Catherine's wish to raise awareness about the importance of organ and blood donation, how it ensures that more lives can be saved and more families can find hope in difficult times.
