With deep sadness we announce that Barbara Grace Harrison passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on March 7th, 2025 following a day filled with laughter and love.
Born June 28, 1957 in Trenton, Ontario, Barbara was an Air Force brat who attended 8 elementary schools in as many years before moving to Picton, Ontario, where she attended high school. Those frequent moves may have influenced settling in Napanee for nearly four decades - and being afraid to ever throw anything away.
After staying home with her children for their early years, Barbara attended Loyalist College to train as a Registered Practical Nurse. And, returned to school again to become a Registered Nurse. She spent the majority of her life as a caregiver: In the home as wife and mother, in the community with the Victorian Order of Nurses, and as a charge nurse at Kingston Health Sciences Centre.
Barbara is lovingly remembered by her husband Gerald, children Miranda (Mark) and Matthew, sister Lynn Shwadchuck, and an extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Jean and Lorne Smith, her brother, David and sister, Pamela.
Respecting Barbara’s wishes, no funeral service will be held and a private burial will take place at a later date. Condolences are appreciated by the family and donations can be made to the Napanee Salvation Army or the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association.
Throughout her life, Barbara worried about everyone she loved. We know that when she left us, she was at peace knowing we would be okay.
Finally I saw that worrying had come to nothing.
And I gave it up. And took my old body and went out into the morning,
and sang. - Mary Oliver
