Anita Jessup

Anita Elaine Jessup (née Thompson), aged 89, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026, in Waterloo, Ontario.

Born on September 8, 1936, in Bancroft, Ontario, Anita lived a life defined by kindness, compassion, humour, and devotion to those she loved. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Don Jessup, and is survived by her daughters, Melanee Jessup, Laurel Jessup LaVoy, and Sandra Jessup Waudby.

She was a proud and loving grandmother to Christopher (Ashley), Courtney Woolacott (Dan), Matthew (Jessica), Shelby Lavoy (Brandi), and Amanda Legere, and a cherished great-grandmother to Avery, Damian, Dominic, Jade, Hope, Xavier, and Luke. Anita was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Cecilia (née Musclow) Thompson; her sister, Eulla Maschke and her husband, William; and her brother, Frank Thompson (Norma).

Anita devoted her professional life to caring for others as a nurse at Bowmanville Memorial Hospital. Over the course of her career, she served in the Maternity and Emergency departments before concluding her nursing career in the ECG department. Her compassion, steady presence, and dedication to her patients and colleagues reflected the qualities that defined her throughout her life.

Outside of her career, Anita found joy in life's simple pleasures. Until failing eyesight made it impossible, she was a voracious reader who could always be found with a book close at hand. She expressed her creativity through the quilts and afghans she lovingly made for family and friends, each stitch a reflection of her generosity and care. She was also a devoted armchair coach of the Toronto Blue Jays, never short of opinions, encouragement, or commentary from the comfort of home.

Those who knew Anita will remember her as thoughtful, kind, and caring, with a wonderful sense of humour that brought warmth and laughter to those around her. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel seen, valued, and loved. Her legacy lives on in the family she treasured, the lives she touched through her nursing, and the many memories shared by those fortunate enough to know her.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Anita's wishes, there will be no funeral service. Those wishing to honour her memory are invited to donate to the charity of their choice.

Anita's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of The Village at University Gates, Pollock Neighbourhood, for helping her through her final days. Mom often spoke of your warmth, kindness, and compassion. We also thank you for the support you provided to us, both before and after Mom's passing. We will be forever grateful.
