Andrew Stephen Weeks, born July 22, 1949, passed away on December 21, 2024, at the Lennox and Addington County General Hospital. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and physician, Andrew lived a full and accomplished life, touching the hearts of many with his humor, intellect, and unwavering passion for learning.
Born in Ottawa, Andrew spent his early years in Westboro, where he developed an early love for trains, games, and family vacations. His childhood was marked by summers in Wells Beach, Maine, and a formative trip to Europe in 1959, where he met German relatives. Tragically, his mother, Gerda, passed away in 1957 when Andrew was just eight years old. He and his family adapted to life with the support of housekeepers and close family friends until his father married Annalea in 1960.
After attending Nepean High School—where he found the classes uninspiring—Andrew pursued his education at Queen’s University, earning a degree in Engineering before transitioning to Medicine. He specialized in Internal Medicine and later Cardiology in Halifax. His love for knowledge extended beyond his profession; he took great joy in classical music, cryptic crosswords, and language nuances.
In 1978, Andrew married Stacey, a physiotherapist he met at a Club Med resort. Their life together took them to various locations, including Saskatoon, Thunder Bay, and Simcoe, Ontario. Andrew’s career was marked by dedication to patient care, and his passion for medicine was mirrored in his pride as a Queen’s Engineering alumnus. He was especially honored to be involved in the graduation ceremonies of his daughters, Andrea (2004) and Colleen (2005), and later took pride in Colleen’s transition from engineering to medicine.
A devoted father and grandfather, Andrew cherished time with his daughters and, later, his grandchildren. In 2018, he walked Colleen down the aisle at her wedding to Alex Tully, with whom he quickly bonded. The arrival of his first grandchild, Harriet, in 2021 brought him immense joy, and he eagerly awaited the birth of his second grandchild, Archer, in 2024. Though illness prevented him from meeting Archer in person, he shared loving moments via video calls. He was thrilled to learn of Colleen’s second pregnancy in the summer of 2023, sharing the news with pride.
Andrew had a lifelong love of golf, traveling to destinations such as the Mayan Riviera and Punta Cana, where he and Stacey were devoted members of Palace Resorts and Hard Rock. He also explored South America, Asia, Costa Rica, and Canada’s Yukon and Northwest Territories. His passion for craft beer was evident in his many visits to PEI breweries and the MacKinnon Brothers Brewery in Bath, Ontario.
In his later years, Andrew took on new hobbies, including playing the saxophone, flying a drone, programming in Python, and sailing, taking numerous boating courses. He was a devoted Jeopardy fan, watching it daily, and was never shy about his strong political opinions—especially his disdain for Donald Trump.
Andrew’s wit, intellect, and unwavering curiosity will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of learning, adventure, and love for family will live on in those he leaves behind. Andrew was predeceased by his father J. Ernest P. Weeks and his step mother Annalea Weeks. Andrew is survived by his wife Stacey, brother Peter, stepsister Barbara, daughters Colleen (Alex) and Andrea, grandchildren Harriet and Archie, and many extended family members.
