Peter Gerrit Vandenburg

On December 11, 2018, Peter Gerrit Vandenburg of Cressy passed away peacefully at Hallowell House and was reunited with his beloved wife Dorothy "Dordy" whom he had so dearly missed.  Peter was the cherished father of Dennis (Dorothy), Paul (Kim), Pamela (Mark) and Lisa (Randy).  Loving Poppy to Jamie (Cheryl), Jeff (Crystal), Zak (Bobbi), Hilary (Andrew), Kiersten (Jeremy) and Melissa (Jason).  Great-Poppy to Jayden, Cooper, Jake, Anna, Jennifer and Nico. Peter was born in s’Gravenzande, South Holland and came to Canada in 1948 where he met and married the love of his life, Dorothy.  They resided in Cressy and he was a successful commercial fisherman on Lake Ontario for decades.  Peter also had an amazing talent for wood working, carpentry and construction and he crafted some beautiful homes in Prince Edward County over the years. He was always willing to use his skills to lend a helping hand to his neighbours, his community and his church.  Cremation has taken place and respecting Peter’s wishes, a graveside service will be held in the spring of 2019 at Cressy Cemetery. For those who wish, donations to a charity of your choice or The Cressy Cemetery Board would be appreciated.

 Peter’s family have many people to thank for all the years of care and kindness given to Dad - in particular, Dr. Norah Connell for her devotion and compassion; the gentle and loving staff and residents at Hallowell House who made Dad’s last years so much easier; his friends and neighbours and everyone who sent best wishes, good thoughts and kept Dad in their prayers.
