George Elliott Obituary

George passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the Belleville General Hospital at the age of 88.

Born in Montreal, Quebec on March 12, 1930 to Ann Christina (nee Blackburn) and George Elliott, George is predeceased by his wife, Marjorie and sister, Anne (Curley). George will be fondly remembered by his five children, Phillip (Sandra), Peter (Melissa), Betsy (Ken), Chris (Kim), Patricia (Martin), his brother Charlie (Dianna) as well as eleven grandchildren, great granddaughter, nieces, nephews and good friends.

George grew up in Montreal and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He met Marjorie Forbes while studying Forestry at the University of New Brunswick, where he played football (Red Bombers), basketball, soccer, hockey and other sports he loved.  George and Marjorie married in 1953 and relocated to Trois Rivieres and La Tuque, Quebec for employment in logging camps before returning to Fredericton to complete his Master of Forestry at UNB. George enjoyed a fulfilling career with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources as Chief Ranger in Bracebridge, Forest Protection Supervisor in Cochrane, District Forester in Chapleau, Deputy Regional Director in Richmond Hill and the Regional Director of Northeast Region in Cochrane and Northwest Region in Thunder Bay where he retired in 1989. 

George loved to golf, curl, sing, play bridge, and travel. He enjoyed the outdoors and Scouting, having attended the 6th World Scout Jamboree in France in 1947. He was also a member of the Maple Leaf Masonic Lodge #119 and Bath United Church. George will be fondly remembered for his outgoing personality and great sense of humour. 

A celebration of George’s life and will take place at a later date.  Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
